Lawerence Practices Her Desperation Face: A Nicer Review of Winter’s Bone

In Jennifer Lawerence’s riveting film Winter’s Bone, her character Ree is sent on a self-appointed quest to financially secure the future of her family. Set in the Ozarks, this film paints the cold, cruel life of drug run poverty. Though somber tone throughout, a captivating strength is found in teenage Ree; One that draws you in and keeps you hoping for her.
The lack of budget is evident in the film with a lack of creative camera work and sets that didnt necessarily fit with the overall poverty feel. The tone of desperation was echoed constantly, but was not represented wholly in the setting (such as the house lived in, clothes worn, etc.). Despite this, desperation was a trait exhibited by Ree, who was beautifully executed by Lawerence, and her family members. Without a doubt, you are taken into the impoverished life of the Ozarks…quite literally through the trials and tribulations that are Ree Dolly.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2 out of 5.
Would watch again, but not like Mean Girls constantly.
